WHO Global Service Centre MSC Affiliate Acknowledgement Ceremony
Thursday, 8 December 2016
WHO Global Service Centre, Cyberjaya
Bismillahirrahmannirrahim,
A very good morning to all,
Dr Hans Troedsson, Assistant Director General of Management, World Health Organisation (WHO),
Mr Henry Cardenas, Director of WHO Global Service Centre, Cyberjaya,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Alhamdulillah, let me express utmost gratitude to Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala, for it is with His Bounty, and His Grace, that we are gathered here today for the acknowledgment ceremony to confer MSC Affiliate status on WHO Global Service Centre.
2. I am pleased to note that since its establishment in Malaysia in 2008, more than 8 years ago, WHO Global Service Centre has grown substantially, operating global administrative services such as global human resources, global finance and global procurement and logistics, to support its offices around the world.
3. This is a testament of Malaysia as a destination of choice for Global Business Services (GBS) activities where global multinational companies and organisations enjoy excellent business growth attributed to Malaysia’s financial attractiveness, availability of talent and skills, and conducive business environment.
4. Although Malaysia is already ranked 3rd in the AT Kearney’s Global Services Location Index for 2016 behind only India and China, we seek to continuously further improve on this.
5. It is in this spirit that MDEC embarked on a special framework called MSC Affiliate, designed exclusively for organisations such as WHO. As the 1st recipient of this MSC Affiliate status, we are confident that WHO Global Service Centre will scale to greater heights in its operations here. Being part of the MSC family, it gives WHO greater access to numerous MDEC initiatives, including MDEC’s talent programs, networking events amongst the MSC companies, focused group discussions in addressing industrial level issues, roundtable meetings with various GBS operations in Malaysia and the opportunity to keep abreast of any future initiatives and developments. A big, warm, welcome to the MSC family!
Ladies and Gentlemen,
6. Being part of the MSC family, WHO will be joining the other 481 active Global Business Services Centres in Malaysia. These include notable global brands such as Hewlett Packard, IBM, Shell, HSBC and GlaxoSmithKline to name a few.
7. Nonetheless, we must go beyond the usual Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) or Information Technology Outsourcing (ITO) into the new dimensions of Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO) which is highly knowledge-centric and requires diverse and professional talents. These will include leveraging on Big Data Analytics and Internet of Things amongst others that can potentially establish Regional Centres of Excellence or Research and Development Centres. A truly global business service that serves more complex and dynamic customers.
8. In relation to this, MDEC as the enabler and facilitator of the industry, continues to provide a range of support to further develop the Shared Services and Outsourcing industry for its potential to drive Malaysia’s digital economy. MDEC provides integration of services with the best competitive strategy utilising ICT, Finance, Accounting, HR and many more. It has become an essential tool in accelerating and complementing global business services approaches as more companies are leveraging on best practices to align their business objectives and obtain greater economies of scale.
9. I am confident that WHO will leverage on MDEC’s strengths so that your Global Service Centre, a very integral part of WHO global operations, continues to deliver its mandate and implement its programmes in the most timely and cost effective manner. And, contributes towards building of a better, healthier future for people all over the world.
Thank you.
