Ladies and Gentlemen,
It is my pleasure to be here tonight, with the family of MIMOS and Integrity Partners in celebrating a significant corporate achievement within the National Integrity System framework.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
2. Values, when transformed into a culture truly permeates, mirrors and delivers a promise each time and every time. When these values are then based on unyielding integrity and honour to excellence, the delivery can only see the same. As the Chairman of Institute of Integrity Malaysia (IIM), I am proud that IIM has been involved in making SATRIA1 a reality. MIMOS was one of the earliest Government-Owned-Corporation that worked actively with IIM in building an organisation that wins on the principles of Integrity.
3. The inception of MIMOS’s Core Leadership Values, led by President and CEO, Dato’ Abdul Wahab Abdullah has seen great strides towards amalgamation of Malaysia’s vision for a transparent and accountable society. IIM formalised this smart partnership with MIMOS on 6th September 2007. It followed the introduction of a MIMOS Code of Ethics (MCE); the establishment of the Integrity and Ethics Compliance Committee; and the designation of the role of a Chief Integrity Officer within MIMOS Corporate Human Resource Vice-President office portfolio. MIMOS led this culture with a ‘Say-Do’ motto which encapsulates the way of life in MIMOS – “Say what you do and Do what you say”. I must congratulate you and your team at MIMOS, Dato Wahab for this work. I would also like to thank Y.Bhg. Tan Sri Hamid Bugo, my fellow colleague in the IIM Board who adjudicated the SATRIA 1.
4. Integrity, cannot be summarised in a Project. It is a way of life that trails us from cradle to grave. It must remain with us at our most trying moments, for those are the moments that move and test our beliefs and values. I am aware that MIMOS is now in its fourth and final stage of the SATRIA1 Masterplan focusing on Innovation. This, I would argue, is the most poignant stage of the Programme. It focuses on delivery. It zeroes in on results. The outcome of your day at work, each day and every day, will define the soundness of SATRIA 1’s success, its impact and upshot.
5. It is here where you can make that difference. The very founding of this Institution stands on the restless curiosity of moving the boundaries of scientific and technological precincts. When moving these limits, we must do so with integrity in mind and in action. The era of technology and science holds much promise with its corresponding challenges for institutions like MIMOS. You could “tech-up” a gamut of industries, from medicine to energy to education, through innovation.
6. Thus why technology and science has become more essential for our prosperity, security and our quality of life than it has ever been before. That our lives are becoming that much more dependent on new waves of inventions and progress, integrity is fundamental requisite in those responsible in producing these moments of progress. We must inculcate responsibility and accountability in scientific breakthroughs. There must be transparency with users and stakeholders in the use of scientific information and its policymaking. When we move towards this culture as individuals, teams and as an organisation, we would have done justice to the culture of Integrity. We would have realised the vision of SATRIA 1.
7. On behalf of my colleagues in IIM, I wish to express our collective appreciation and due acknowledgement to everyone in MIMOS for participating, leading and championing an organisation based on Integrity.
8. With each new discovery and innovation comes new responsibility. The fragility and sacredness of life requires that we base our decisions and actions on truth and integrity. Our progress in science and technology, as a society and nation, cannot displace our ethics, our values and our principles. The more we examine the mysteries of this word, the more humble we must be. Our discoveries when based on integrity will ensure that we use such discoveries for the betterment of societies and nations. It will anchor us to put those innovations and discoveries to better our healthcare, enhance literacy, improve communications, and raise standards of living. In short, integrity when acted upon becomes an organisational condition and habit. It should make everyone of us a Chief Integrity Officer in our own rights. I wish for MIMOS to live this example.
Thank you.
Wassalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
